As sports resume across university and college campuses as well as school districts this fall, so does the pressure and increasing mental health concerns faced by student-athletes. Recent survey data highlights the growing mental health toll faced by student-athletes as they balance academics, social life, and the pressure to compete in their sport.
Join Dr. Glenn Albright, Professor at Baruch College, City University of New York and Dr. Tomika Ferguson, Assistant Dean & Assistant Professor, Virginia Commonwealth University. They will discuss the state of student-athlete mental health and present recent research findings that examine the impact of a role-play training simulation being used to teach student-athletes to identify, talk to and if necessary, refer fellow students experiencing psychological distress to support services. Kaillie Humphries, four-time Olympian in the Women’s Bobsled will lend the athlete perspective to this important topic. As an accomplished athlete, Kaillie has been an advocate for mental health and will discuss the challenges faced by athletes alike such as social media, building your brand, and taking care of your mental health.
