One out of every four children attending school has been exposed to a traumatic event, which has lifelong consequences for their well-being and educational outcomes. Educators and school staff work daily with these children; equipping them with the knowledge and skills to respond should be a priority for school and district leaders, as well as school mental health professionals.

Janet has created and successfully implemented child abuse prevention, relationship, parenting, mental health, trauma, and youth suicide education curricula and currently serves as the Director of the Center for School Behavioral Health at Mental Health America of Greater Houston.

Marleen Wong, senior associate dean and clinical professor, serves as director of field education, overseeing the internships of over 3,000 Master of Social Work students studying at three academic centers at the Suzanne Dworak Peck School of Social Work at the University of Southern California, including the Virtual Academic Center with students based all over the United States.

Wong is an internationally recognized mental health expert. Called one of the "pre-eminent experts in school crisis and recovery" by the White House and the "architect of school-safety programs" by The Wall Street Journal, Wong has developed mental health and trauma recovery programs, crisis and disaster training for school districts and law enforcement in the United States, Canada, Israel and Asia.

Ms. Vona’s interests include understanding how to support the implementation of evidence-based mental health practices in community settings. Specifically, her work has focused on how web-based platforms can support training in and implementation of evidence-based practices in schools. Ms. Vona is currently the Program Manager for the Treatment and Services Adaptation Center for Resiliency, Hope, and Wellness in Schools. She also serves as a liaison to the NCTSN School Committee.
